Unnamed

Artist: Sam Hanrath
Title: Unnamed (2013)
Medium: peels of acrylic paint on wire armature
Project Title: Self-directed work
Scale: 2 x 1x 1.5 feet

Artist Statement:

Drawn from — but not identical to — my own physical proportions and fashioned from peels of acrylic paint, Unnamed sits on the floor lost in self-contemplation. Tough turned inward, Unnamed demands the viewer’s anthropomorphic empathy. Reasonably humanoid, though somewhat pathetic, we want Unnamed to breathe and move, think and feel. We want to name Unnamed  to give Unnamed identityand being. It is this empathy that brings Unnamed to life, making Unnamed a living painting.
